West Lake Hills City Council said goodbye to longtime council member and Mayor Pro Tem Stan Graham, who on Wednesday served on the council for the final time before retiring. Council Member Jim O'Connor was also named the new mayor pro tem at the meeting.

“Stan has been a council member for eight years and it is a lot of selfless, hard and thankless service that he’s given this city and all of its residents,” Mayor Linda Anthony said. “He’s done work in all of our favors tirelessly and without seeking anything in return.”
She said Graham became a member of the city's transportation committee in 2008, and was sworn into the council May 2009. He was named mayor pro tem May 2012.
Anthony read a proclamation naming May 10, 2017, as Stan Graham Day in the city. The proclamation honored Graham for being a steadfast champion of the goals of the city's master plan and a protector of native trees and shrubs, she said.

“I want to thank everyone for their support over the last eight years,” Graham said at the meeting. “It’s been quite a trip. You’re doing things for the city to make it better, and I hope I’ve accomplished something over the last eight years that benefits the city. I’ve enjoyed it immensely and have met so many people in the city. I greatly appreciate what the staff does for the City Council and the residents of West Lake Hills. Look after the little things because they are so important.”
Graham was given a plaque, a bouquet of cedar and a thorn to poke the council when they go astray, Anthony said.
Beth South will replace Graham on the council beginning May 24.
