Eighteen comprehensive school improvement projects are in progress as part of Austin ISD's implementation of its
updated Facility Master Plan. According to Chief Financial Officer Nicole Conley Johnson, comprehensive projects address schools with the lowest facility condition scores and overcrowding issues.
Visioning and concept meetings have been completed for the following schools, according to a presentation made at Monday's board meeting by representatives from the Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee, or FABPAC. However, the committee is seeking to remove some comprehensive projects from Phase 1 of implementation in order to reduce the cost of the potential bond package voters will be asked to approve in November. The trustees are expected to call for a bond election in June.
The funds acquired through the potential bond would be used to pay for the comprehensive projects in Phase 1 of the Facility Master Plan. Preliminary bond planning estimates put a $3.9 billion price tag on proposed facility improvement projects. The advisory committee hopes to reduce that total to $900 million.
