Several meetings are scheduled throughout the Tomball and Magnolia areas this week. Here are five things to note: 1. The Tomball ISD Board of Trustees will discuss the proposed budget for the 2017-18 fiscal year during a workshop meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 8, at 310 S. Cherry Street, Tomball. The board is also set to receive an update regarding the 2013 bond and the district's facilities study. A regular board meeting will follow at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 9. 2. Magnolia City Council will swear in three council members during Tuesday's regular meeting at 7 p.m. in City Hall, 18111 Buddy Riley Boulevard, Magnolia. Newly-elected Council Member Matthew "Doc" Dantzer and re-elected council members John Bramlett and Richard Carby will be sworn in for two-year terms ending May 2019. 3. Senate Bill 2118, which would allow LSCS to offer a baccalaureate nursing program if signed into law, was passed by the Senate and has been received by the House as of last Wednesday. The bill is authored by Sen. Kel Seliger, R-Amarillo. 4. While hurricane season does not begin until June 1, Hurricane Preparedness Week—celebrated May 7-13—encourages residents to prepare by developing an emergency plan, signing up to receive weather alerts and assemble an emergency supplies kit, according to the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Additional preparedness tips can be found at www.readyharris.org and on the National Weather Service's website. 5. Commissioners courts in Montgomery and Harris counties will meet at 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., respectively, on Tuesday, May 9, to discuss county business.
