Just in time for
Travel and Tourism Week, the entity that helps brings visitors to Austin is rebranding.
The Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau—which helps fill Austin's more-than-35,000 hotel rooms and works closely with the Austin Convention Center to book meetings—is now
Visit Austin.
“Our ultimate goal in changing our name to ‘Visit Austin’ was to make it easier for visitors and meeting planners alike to find relevant information and resources when researching Austin as a destination,” Tom Noonan, president and CEO of Visit Austin, said in a news release.
The newly renamed organization is celebrating travel and tourism industry week May 7-13 by showcasing 25 Austinites who represent the city's travel industry.
Nominees in the
"Faces of Travel" include The County Line owner Don "Skeeter" Miller, Austin City Limits Vice President of Brand Development Ed Bailey and Six Square Executive Director Nefertitti Jackmon.
More than 120,000 Austin residents are employed in the hospitality industry, according to Visit Austin, and hospitality is now the third-largest employer in the region.
