San Marcos City Council postponed three items related to downtown parking Tuesday night. The items, which could help address needs voiced by downtown business owners for more employee parking, will be discussed again in June.
Council Member Lisa Prewitt said she believes downtown business owners need more time to review the city's proposed plans.
Chris Rue, general manager of Stonewall Warehouse and president of the Downtown Business Association, requested that council give the DBA time to consider the proposal and offer input.
"Give them some time," Prewitt said. "Give them six weeks. Give them some time to think."
The first item would have created four parking areas downtown that would have been reserved for employees of downtown businesses Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The four areas included part of Moon Street near University Drive; part of Edward Gary and Comal streets near South LBJ Drive; part of Pat Garrison Road near Comanche Street; and part of Centre Street near Comanche Street.
The other items would have moved all downtown parking to a two-hour time limit Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and would have formally created the downtown employee parking program.
