Leander ISD has announced the appointment of Matthew Bentz as the chief academic officer for the district.

Bentz was appointed by Superintendent Dan Troxell and will oversee the teaching and learning department. He was appointed April 7, according to the district.

“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Bentz to LISD,” Troxell said. “Throughout his career, Dr. Bentz has proven to be a leader focused on helping improve learning.”

Bentz earned a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate in education from Arizona State Univeristy. He started his education career as a teacher at Machan Elementary School in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1994. He became the school’s student advisor and then the assistant principal for four years.

In 2009, Bentz took on the role of athletic director for Agua Fria High School in Avondale, Arizona, then served as principal of Agua Fria High School for five years.

Most recently, Bentz was the assistant superintendent for educational services at the Agua Fria Union High School District.
