The county begins accepting applications for a committee to provide input on new voting equipment today.  

The voting members of the commission will include two county employees, the heads of the county Republican and Democratic parties as well as seven county residents selected through an application process. The committee will provide recommendations to the county’s election commission on what kind of new equipment should replace the county’s current voting technology, which was last replaced 12 years ago. The elections commission will then make a recommendation to the Commissioners Court, which will make the final decision on purchasing new equipment. Applications can be sent via email to [email protected]. The application period will be accepted through April 17 at noon. Applicants should include their reason for wanting to serve on the commission as well as any previous experience working with voting equipment or the voting process.

San Marcos City Council meets today at 5 p.m.

City Council will discuss a plan for development of a pocket park at 214 E. Hutchison St., San Marcos. The park would include a garden, shade structures, a bike repair station and other features. The total estimated cost of developing the site into a pocket park is $344,566, according to the meeting’s agenda packet. The meeting will be held at City Hall, 630 E. Hopkins St., San Marcos. Buda City Council meets today at 6 p.m.

Buda City Council will hold a workshop to discuss the ongoing rewrite of the city’s unified development code, which guides various aspects of the physical development of a piece of property. Council will also discuss approval of design plans for improvements to City Park, 204 San Antonio St., Buda. The meeting takes place at City Hall, 121 S. Main St., Buda. Kyle City Council meets today at 7 p.m.

City Council will discuss paying $177,500 for development of a flood-risk mitigation plan. The plan would help address critical drainage needs within the city and manage future development. Council will also discuss a proposed sidewalk maintenance program. The agenda can be viewed here.

San Marcos’ Charter Review Commission meets Thursday.

The commission, which provides recommendations to City Council, will discuss potential changes to parts of the city’s charter dealing with ethics, nepotism and other issues. The commission has been meeting since February and is scheduled to meet for the final time April 20.
