For a decade, longtime Montgomery resident Danielle Johnson often found herself cooking and baking for her family, her church and her children’s schools. After years of being asked to open her own cafe, she agreed to open a business to offer her casseroles and sweets five days a week.
Tickled Pink Desserts & Cafe is located in the heart of Downtown Montgomery inside the boutique, Small Town Sugar. Johnson originally opened the dessert shop in 2011. However, she closed it in 2012 and worked out of her home instead. After many requests, Johnson opened her doors again with a new cafe concept in December.
“I have a servant’s heart, and I love to serve at church and serve my family, and we want to bring that back to the community,” Johnson said.
The cafe offers a different casserole or quiche and soup selection every day. Customers can also order from a wide selection of sandwiches, salads and desserts every day of the week.
Johnson said her King Ranch Chicken Casserole, which is served on Tuesdays; chicken salad sandwiches, which can also be made spicy; and cake balls, which are available in more than 20 different flavors, are among the most popular dishes ordered by her customers.
Tickled Pink offers whole cakes, pies and casseroles for dine-in or carry-out. With advance notice of 24-48 hours, Johnson also creates custom cakes, cookies and cupcakes. For customers with dietary needs, she also offers paleo, Weight Watchers, gluten-free and health-conscious casseroles and soups.
“If there is something not on the menu that somebody wants, then we try to incorporate it,” she said. “We also are open on Sundays by reservation only, and if someone needs to pick up a casserole for dinner later than we’re open, I can always meet them here after-hours.”
In addition to dine-in and carry-out options, Johnson also offers catering services and a party room for parties, showers and weddings.
