Residents are invited to learn more about area transportation plans Saturday, March 4 at an event called Traffic Jam!
The Austin Transportation Department and Capital Metro host the mobility solutions workshop, which is from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Bullock Texas State History Museum, 1800 Congress Ave., Austin.
Area transportation plans underway include the
Austin Strategic Mobility Plan, a citywide transportation plan aimed at expanding upon the Imagine Austin comprehensive plan, and the relaunch of
Project Connect, which is a Central Texas regional transit plan to find high-capacity transit options to connect jurisdictions.
Project Connect first launched in February 2013 and began with creating a
North Corridor plan with jurisdictions in Williamson County that is now being implemented. The
Central Corridor plan in downtown Austin resulted in a failed urban rail bond voters turned down in November 2014.
“The Traffic Jam! event is the first opportunity of many for the community to engage with both Project Connect and the ASMP to validate what we’ve heard over the years, give us more input and tell us if we’re on the right path,” said Rob Spillar, director of the Austin Transportation Department, in a news release. “These two initiatives are crucial to realizing success in Central Texas' transportation future, and it’s critical the community see value in both plans and can rally behind them.”
Activities include presentations, panel discussions and hands-on activities for both adults and children. Attendees will also be able to provide input and ideas on improving mobility in the region.
Taking public transit is encouraged, but paid parking is available at the museum and on-street. Breakfast tacos and beverages will also be served.
The first 200 registrants will also gain free entry to the museum for the day.
