With the deadline passed to file for candidacy in Jersey Village elections this May, only one position is contested on the Jersey Village City Council.

Bobby Warren, a compliance professional in the energy industry and Jersey Village resident since 2014, has filed to run against incumbent C.J. Harper for council Place 3.

Warren said mitigating flood problems and developing amenities are among his top priorities.

"The city must work diligently to identify and enact measures to mitigate the flooding problems that plague our city," he said.  We must, however, also continue to develop amenities and attract businesses to our community which will draw young families to our community. That is the only way our property values will continue to increase."

Warren also said he wants to make city government more transparent. He has called on council in the past to make city council agenda packets available to the public.

Harper, a retired peace crops officer, was first elected to council in 2015 with a convincing 244-87 win over incumbent Harry Beckwith.

Harper has also called on government to be more open and accessible, often stressing the importance of listening to citizens and taking their input into account on various issues. He was a major advocate for creating a citizen-led committee to provide input on an ongoing flood mitigation study being conducted by the engineering firm Dannenbaum Engineering.

Jersey Village Mayor Justin Ray and Councilman Greg Holden are also up for election this May, but both are running unopposed.
