On Wednesday afternoon, Sen. Larry Taylor introduced and passed Senate Resolution 238 to name February 22 as Pearland Day. Leaders from the city traveled to Austin to celebrate the day and lobby lawmakers on legislative issues important to them.
Taylor bragged on Pearland by saying it has experienced tremendous growth in all areas of the economy.
"It is one of the fastest growing cities in the country," Taylor said. "The city has a flourishing economy, great schools and has been designated an All American City."
Leaders of the Pearland Chamber of Commerce, Pearland City Council and Alvin ISD were in attendance, among others.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick also commented that he has his own fond memories of Pearland as his parents lived there for three decades.
"I saw it when it was a lot smaller than it was now, but it is good," he said.
