Five newcomers and two incumbents have put their names in the hat for three places on Shenandoah City Council. Positions 2, 3 and 4, held by incumbents John Houston, Darrell Frazier and Jean Teague, respectively, are up for election this spring. Houston and Teague both filed for candidacy, while Frazier elected not to run for the May 6 election. At the conclusion of the filing period last Friday, the city announced residents Jason Camara and Ted Fletcher filed for Position 2, Nancy Smith and Byron Bevers are in the race for Position 3 and Charlie Brandt will run for Position 4. Write-in candidates must declare candidacy by 5 p.m. Feb. 21, and the last day for candidates to withdrawal from the election is 5 p.m. Feb. 24. Early voting for the general election will take place from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. April 24-29 and from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. May 1-2.
