Trustees from San Marcos and Hays CISDs will discuss potential May bond elections at meetings Monday night.


The San Marcos CISD board of trustees will meet Monday at 6 p.m. at the Central Administration Building, 501 S. LBJ Drive, San Marcos. Trustees will consider a bond package that would fun construction projects totaling around $100 million. The projects are aimed at helping the district address current and anticipated future capacity demands.

The Hays CISD board of trustees will meet Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Hays High School CTE building, 4800 Jack C. Hays Trail, Kyle, to consider placing two propositions totaling $250 million on the May 6 ballot. The bonds would fund projects including a third high school, 14th elementary school and a replacement campus for Buda Elementary School.

San Marcos Planning & Zoning Commission meets Tuesday with two items on the agenda.


San Marcos P&Z meets Tuesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 600 E. Hopkins St., to discuss approval of a preliminary plat for about 25 acres of the Whisper Public Improvement District subdivision being built southeast of the Yarrington Road and I-35 intersection. The commission will also discuss granting a conditional-use permit that would allow Ivar’s River Pub, formerly known as the River Pub, to sell alcoholic beverages. The pub’s ownership said they believe their restaurant will be ready to open this spring.

Friday is the last day to file for a place on the May 6 ballot.


Those wishing to run for the SMCISD or HCISD board of trustees have until Friday to file for a place on the ballot.

In SMCISD, incumbent Miguel Arredondo and challenger Brian Henderson have filed for the District 1 seat, according to district records. Incumbent Margie Villalpando and challenger Elizabeth Trevino have filed for the District 2 seat. Incumbent Lupe Costilla and challenger Mariana Angelica Zamora have filed for the District 3 seat.

In HCISD, only incumbent Teresa M. Tobias has filed for the District 1 seat, according to district records. Incumbent Willie Tenorio Jr. is also the only candidate who has filed for the District 2 seat. Debbie Munoz and Vannessa V. Petrea have filed for the at-large seat being vacated by Sandra Bryant.

The city of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department hosts a party every three months in neighborhood parks throughout the city.
