McKinney ISD Superintendent Rick McDaniel addressed City Council during a council work session Jan. 24 seeking an increase in   communication between the entities.

McDaniel said he had gotten the idea from surrounding school districts that regularly meet with their respective city councils.

The MISD board and the city already hold joint meetings in which board and council priorities are shared between the two entities. The next joint meeting will take place Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the MISD central board room, 1 Duvall St.

Mayor Brian Loughmiller suggested adding each entity's legislative priorities to the agenda, citing the state’s new A-F accountability ratings.

“I think it's important for our council, the school board to be on the same page with issues that may be created by legislation,” Loughmiller said.
