Bear Branch Elementary School, Ellisor Elementary School, Bear Branch Junior High and the Bear Branch 6th Grade campus are under a lockdown order, MISD Communications Director Denise Meyers said. Local police are working to arrest an individual in the area.

"We're working with law enforcement...they notified us of the situation that was happening," Meyers said. "They were trying to apprehend a suspect and as a precautionary [measure] they asked us to lock down those schools. So we're in communication and once they give us the OK, we'll lift the [lockdown]."

Meyers said the district has not been notified as to when the lockdown may be lifted.

Scott Spencer, a lieutenant in the executive division with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, said the scene is near the Target parking lot on FM 2978 at FM 1488.

"The scene is not an active shooter or bank robbery," Spencer said in a statement. "The schools in the area are on lockdown as a precaution."
