The city of McKinney and the McKinney Economic Development Corp. have received five responses to an RFQ issued in December for the development of the Gateway site at SH 121 and US 75. Responses came from Trammell Crow Company; Lincoln Property Company; Team McKinney Gateway, which consists of KDC, Corinth Properties and Columbus Properties; Flaherty & Collins Properties; and Harwood International. The Gateway property consists of 90 acres, 57 of which are undeveloped. In 2015, Lincoln Property Company entered into a development agreement with the city to complete the Gateway Development. The agreement stated that by February 2016, LPC had to acquire the first parcel of land by executing a purchase agreement in order to continue as the developer. In March 2016, LPC announced that it could not proceed under those terms and withdrew from the project. "We have a lot of time and energy [invested]; we were involved with the site previously and frankly, we like the site and we like the city of McKinney," said Tom McElroy, senior vice president of Lincoln Property Company. The city and MEDC will begin vetting the respondents and officials said they hope to select a top contender this spring. Once that top contender is named, the city and MEDC will enter into a period of exclusive negotiations. If there is no agreement reached, city officials said they will go back to the RFQs and select another candidate from the original five respondents.
