Youth Service Day
Jan. 16
The Georgetown Project hosts a Youth Service Day for students 9-12 grade. Service projects include games with seniors at a senior center, park clean-up, organization at the NEST Empowerment Center for teens, and working at Habitat ReStore, Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center as well as Brookwood in Georgetown. Students needing service hours will be given certificates for four hours of service.

Day of Service

The United Way of Williamson County is sponsoring a Day of Service which includes project locations in Cedar Park, Georgetown, Jarrell, Leander, Round Rock and Taylor.

March and Program
Jan. 16
A seven-block march beginning at the Williamson County Courthouse and ending at Macedonia Baptist Church will be followed by a program featuring guest speaker Kantrice Robinson, pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church to honor the MLK Day holiday. The annual event is sponsored by the Georgetown Fellowship of Churches.

Symposium, Screening, and Service at Southwestern

The Race and Ethnicity Studies Program at Southwestern University is hosting an interdisciplinary symposium. The symposium includes Southwestern scholars, including current faculty and alumni, who are engaged in research and activism related to race and ethnicity studies.

Worth the Trip—Martin Luther King Jr. march, festival and food drive
Jan. 16
Organized by the Austin Area Heritage Council, the annual community march celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy as well as diversity and multiculturalism in the city. The event begins with a short program at the Martin Luther King Jr. Statue on The University of Texas campus at the intersection of 23rd Street and Speedway, followed by a march to the south steps of the Texas Capitol and continuing onto Huston-Tillotson University. The festival includes vendors, local musicians and businesses. Marchers are encouraged to bring canned goods or nonperishable food items for the Capital Area Food Bank.
