Various holiday-related events are happening around Fort Bend County, while Sugar Land and Missouri City city councils are holding their last meetings before Christmas.

Monday, Dec. 19

Missouri City City Council

City Council will hold a public hearing to consider rezoning 95.31 acres, known as the Briggs Tract, from suburban district to planned development district to allow for a single-family residential development. This is the second and final reading of the ordinance for the property located north of the Newpoint Estates subdivision and southwest of the Creekmont subdivision.

The first hearing on the proposal was held Sept. 6, when residents voiced opposition to the proposed development.

The council will also discuss its legislative priorities for the 2017 Texas Legislature during a special meeting, and will consider a resolution to suspend the Dec. 21 deadline for CenterPoint Energy's $2.65 per month gas rate increase for city residents. The increase is part of CenterPoint's intention to consolidate the Houston and Texas Coast Divisions, but Missouri City may suspend the increase for up to 90 days in order to study the rates, according to city documents.

Tuesday, Dec. 20

Sugar Land City Council

Sugar Land City Council will discuss the methods for redistricting residents of New Territory and Greatwood, who are set to be annexed into the city on Dec. 12, 2017. New Territory residents will temporarily be assigned to voting District 2 and Greatwood residents will be temporarily assigned to voting District 4.

However, the districts must be redrawn before the 2019 single-member district election in order to ensure comparable representation, according to the city. Sugar Land will also discuss its communications plan for the annexation process at the city council meeting.
