In keeping with the board's goal of increasing efficiency, Austin ISD Trustee and Board President Kendall Pace reported to the public at a meeting Monday that the board will officially scale back from three to two meetings per month beginning in January. "We are trying to be more structured and productive with our time," Pace said. "We have spent the past year working with the superintendent and outside consultants on updating our board goals and constraints and then aligning the monitoring of this work to a 12-month planning calendar." Each month the board will hold a work session and a regular board session on the second and fourth Monday, respectively. Pace said the length of the meetings will depend on the content. "It is a goal to streamline our work, but there will always be unforeseen items that we need to discuss," she said. Pace said more time will be spent monitoring outcomes for students. "We shall see how it goes and will adjust as the work demands," she said. Other governmental bodies in Austin have also looked to improve productivity during the past few years, including Austin City Council.
