The Magnolia City Council met for a regular meeting Tuesday, Dec. 13. Here are the highlights.
1. The city of Magnolia adopted a resolution asking the Texas Legislature to amend the governing law of the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District so that the LSGCD board of directors are elected, not appointed.
2. Leadership has been named for the unified chamber of commerce in Magnolia, which will be called the Greater Magnolia Parkway Chamber of Commerce.
Donna Hunt, existing executive director of the Greater Magnolia Chamber of Commerce, will serve as president of membership for the new chamber, come Jan. 1. Kelly Hamann, existing president of the Magnolia Parkway Chamber of Commerce, will serve as president of administration for the new chamber. Kendrick Skipper, owner of the Magnolia Chick-fil-A location, will serve as chairman of the new board, and GMCC Past Chairman Terre Albert will serve as chairman-elect on the new board. According to Albert, the unified chamber will be located in the GMCC's current office at 18935 FM 1488, Magnolia, for the time being.
3. Society of Samaritans, a Magnolia-based nonprofit organization, received a $50,000 check from the Texas Renaissance Festival.
The festival donated $0.50 of every online ticket sale for the 2016 season to commend SOS for its service to the Magnolia community.
4. All electronic water meters for residential and commercial properties within city limits will be installed by the end of January, according to Public Works Director David Coburn.
The city has worked throughout the summer and fall to switch over to electronic meters, which is expected to decrease the time city employees spend reading the meters each month.
