Leander has started the annexation process for the last available sections of land that can be annexed into the city along Ronald Reagan Boulevard.

Leander City Council passed a resolution Dec. 1 that commenced the annexation of two areas of land that total about 1,130 acres. One section falls along CR 175 and CR 177, and another sits just north of the Palmera Ridge subdivision. The annexations would be involuntary, meaning the property owners did not request annexation.

Council also passed a resolution to commence the annexations of three areas of land totaling about 75 acres around San Gabriel Parkway and the San Gabriel River. Those annexations would be voluntary.

Both resolutions set public hearings on the annexations for Jan. 5 and Jan. 19. The first and final reading of the ordinances will be in February, Assistant City Manager Tom Yantis said.

“These are intended to bring areas that are ready for development into the city limits,” he said.

The Wedemeyer Ranch and Rancho Sienna municipal utility districts also fall near these areas, but those cannot be annexed into the city, Yantis said. The 1,130 acres represents the last of the land in Leander’s extraterritorial jurisdiction on the southeast side of the city that can be annexed.

“That will complete all of the annexations along the Ronald Reagan corridor on the east and west side that we can currently legally do,” he said.
