Here are five events our residents should be aware of this week:
1. Eanes ISD to discuss legislative priorities
Eanes ISD Board of Trustees posted a special meeting on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. to discuss the district’s legislative priorities with elected officials and staff. State Rep. Donna Howard, D-Austin, and Gerald Daugherty, Precinct 3 Travis County Commissioner, are expected to join the discussion, as well as representatives for State Sen. Kirk Watson, D-Austin, and State Rep. Paul Workman, R-Austin. The meeting will be at the Ninth Grade Center Library at Westlake High School, 4100 Westbank Drive, Austin.
The board approved a list of eight priorities at its Oct. 18 meeting, which included asking legislators to review metrics associated with funding calculations and support for more local innovation and control.
2. Early voting underway in District 10 runoff election
Early voting continues until Friday for a runoff election to decide the Austin City Council District 10 seat. Incumbent Sheri Gallo faces challenger Alison Alter for the position. Election Day is Dec. 13.
Alter and Gallo were the top two vote-getters in the Nov. 8 general election, but neither received more than 50 percent of the vote to avoid a runoff election. The candidates participated in a campaign forum and answered questions about District 10’s top issues Nov. 29.
3. Lake Travis Regional Reuse and Recycling Center is open on Wednesday morning
The Lake Travis Regional Reuse and Recycling Center, 3207 Neidhardt Drive, Austin, will accept hazardous waste for the final time in 2016 from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday. Disposal is free for residents who show a driver’s license or utility bill from their current address and costs $40 per vehicle for non-residents.
The center does not accept commercial waste, medications, medical products or light bulbs.
4. Bee Cave special city council meeting set to discuss annexation, new development proposal
Bee Cave City Council posted a special meeting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Bee Cave City Hall, 4000 Galleria Pkwy., Bee Cave. A public hearing on the possible annexation of a 128-acre tract located south of Hamilton Pool Road is scheduled as well as a discussion on a development agreement regarding a proposed residential neighborhood on Hamilton Pool Road.
5. Lost Creek Neighborhood Association election is Sunday
Lost Creek Neighborhood Association will have an election meeting Sunday at 7 p.m. at 1305 Quaker Ridge Drive, Austin. LCNA Secretary Megan Marrs, Area 1 Representative Jay Brim and Area 4 Representative Melissa Olen are running for re-election on the LCNA's governing board.
Current LCNA members are eligible to vote in the election and can also nominate additional candidates for the contested positions during the meeting.
