Andy Adams—the creator of several Houston-area bars, including of The Corkscrew Wine Bar, The Washington Avenue Drinkery and Sugarcane Organic Lounge—is trying to bring a taste of the inner loop to Cypress with 21st Amendment Lounge, holding its grand opening Dec. 8 at 12810 Telge Road, Cypress. [g-slider gid="204980" width="100%" height="55%"] When diners pass through the winding open patio, complete with heaters and fireplaces, they will find the indoor bar, featuring a shrine to Frank Sinatra, a piano and walls adorned with quotes about alcohol. The piano isn't just for show; a pianist will be playing at its helm every Monday through Thursday. Live music is part of the atmosphere that Adams said he wants to bring to the Telge Road lounge environment. "We want to bring some of those musicians out here who may not play out here all the time," he said. "People are used to the same bands doing their usual circuit, and we want to change that." In addition to live music, 21st Amendment Lounge features an extensive cocktail list. Different sections feature the usual suspects, Adams' twists on classic drinks, and "new in town" drinks, dedicated to unique creations that Adams said may be hard to find elsewhere in Cypress. The bar will carry a large variety of local beers from the Greater Houston area and a vast selection of wines, Adams said. "Every year Texas spends billions of dollars on alcohol, and we want to keep some of that money here in town," he said. Adams said he is planing a light food menu with the help of his resident chef Dusty Sagaser, who formerly worked as head chef for the Houston restaurant Beaver's and is known on the Food Network as the "Smoke Wrassler" for his barbecue prowess. Sagaser said the purpose of the lounge is not to drink while you are eating, but rather, to eat while you are drinking. "It's not so much fork-and-knife as it is hand-to-mouth," he said. Some of the potential menu items include crab and crawfish cakes and a blue cheese and crab dip. Sagaser said he will also host some specialty nights for food, including steak night, wild game Wednesdays and Saturday afternoon barbecue pop ups. The entire lounge is only open to those 21 and up, and Adams said he hopes this will allow parents and singles to take a night off for themselves. "We want to make this funky and eclectic, something that isn't really seen out here," he said. A Dec. 8 grand opening event will include drink specials and a chance to win a complimentary wine and food pairing valued at $800. Duane Vincent will provide live music. Once open, the lounge will host special events, such as Whiskey Chicks—which is intended to educate women on different whiskeys—and Corkscrew U, which will teach residents about different kinds of wine. 281-304-2417. www.the21stamendment.net
