A smaller-than-normal Target will open at the intersection of Guadalupe and 21st streets off The Drag this July. Target announced today the 22,000-square-foot store will open in the Dobie Twenty21 student apartments, which will undergo renovations before the store opens. The new Target will have a selection of fresh groceries, including grab-and-go items; a curated assortment of dorm and apartment essentials; health, personal care and beauty items; UT apparel and accessories; and portable technology products and accessories, according to a news release. This store is one of the retail company's "flexible-format" stores, meaning it is customized for urban and densely populated suburban areas and college campuses. The company has 31 flexible-format stores. “Growth on college campuses and in urban markets is a priority for Target, said Mark Schindele, senior vice president of Target. "We’re able to serve more guests by adding flexible-format stores near top universities across the country, including the quick-trip shopping experience we’ll bring to The University of Texas campus in July 2017." Other college campuses slated to get Targets include the University of Cincinnati, the University of North Carolina, the University of Florida and the University of Southern California. The news release said Dobie Twenty21 will also have additional retail offerings in the coming months.
