2. Hwy. 6 expansion

The project calls for Hwy. 6 to be expanded from three to four lanes between Brooks Street and Lexington Boulevard as well as for drainage improvements along the roadway. Construction has been recently delayed as city of Sugar Land staff are in negotiations with property owners to acquire rights of way for the expansion. The city said the cost of construction is increasing. Afterward, the Texas Department of Transportation will request bids for construction, which will take approximately 10 months to complete. Timothy Jahn, Sugar Land assistant city engineer, said the cost of construction and costs of rights of way acquisitions had increased and City Council approved an additional $315,000 for the project Nov. 15.

3. Williams Trace Boulevard improvements

Pavement replacement, construction of additional storm sewer infrastructure and installation of a new water main will take place on Williams Trace Boulevard between Hwy. 6 and Austin Parkway. A 10-foot-wide pedestrian and bicycle path will be built along the east side of the roadway. To make room for the path, vehicle lanes will be narrowed from 12 to 11 feet, and the median will be reduced and offset. Additionally, ornamental traffic signals will be installed at the intersection of Williams Trace Boulevard and Austin Parkway. Construction will begin in early 2017 and is expected to take about 15 months to complete.
