Updated at 11:30 p.m. With both precincts reporting,Wiley Hopkins, incumbent Buda City Council member for Place 2, will serve another term, Public Information Officer David Marino confirmed. Hopkins received 55.76 percent with 1,922 votes. His opponent, Jeffrey Morales, received 44.24 percent with 1,525 votes. "Regardless if I lost, [I] am proud to have run a clean campaign and received as many votes as I did," Morales said in an email. "I am proud, as a citizen of Buda, that so many people turned out and voted. It is the right of every citizen to get out and vote and voice their opinion." Posted at 11 p.m. Buda City Council Place 2 candidate Jeffrey Morales is still down, but he's not giving up, he said. "There's still about 700 or 800 people who voted at City Hall today," Morales said. "It could swing either way. You can't throw in the towel yet." As of the 10:08 p.m. update, Morales had 1,451 votes and had 43.90 percent of the vote. Hopkins has 56.10 percent with 1,854 votes. "Regardless of if I win or lose, I'm proud of the turnout," Morales said. "I ran a clean campaign." Posted at 8:05 p.m.  Incumbent Wiley Hopkins is leading the early voting results for Buda City Council Place 2, but opponent Jeffrey Kevin Morales is not throwing in the towel just yet. With 1,583 votes, Hopkins has 56.43 percent, while Morales has 43.57 percent of the early votes with 1,222. "I'm only 361 votes down, and there's a lot of people left to vote today," Morales said. "It looks like it's going to be a long night." Morales said he is still optimistic.
"I'm glad that a lot of people came out and voted," he said. "It was our highest turnout in a while."
