More than 150 students from Spring and Klein ISDs and other districts were invited to Lone Star College-University Park on Oct. 21 to attend an educational STEM, or science, technology, engineering and math, event called Passport to Your Future.
To promote educational interest in STEM fields, educational and industry vendors engaged students in hands-on and interactive learning activities. Also included were live sessions in physics, psychology, mathematics, engineering and technology. The event also included an industry showcase, which provided students an opportunity to visit with local businesses and university representatives to learn more about educational pathways and careers in STEM-related fields.
“The purpose of this event is to create a fun and engaging experience for students that will hopefully spark an interest in STEM-related fields,” said Barbara Thomason, president of the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce. “The intent is to encourage students to explore educational options that will better prepare them for STEM-related occupations once they graduate.”
The annual event is a collaborative effort by the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce Workforce Committee and local volunteers.
