Seven Lakes High School recently displayed a kindness chain across the school’s main hallway in recognition of National Bullying Prevention Month in October. As a reminder to stand against bullying, students wrote acts of kindness on the chain links, said Katy ISD spokesperson Maria Corrales. District-wide, Corrales said teachers presented bullying prevention lesson plans and a YouTube video series, The Tough Kid Bully Blocker Shorts. Third- through fifth-grade students signed and secondary students completed the district’s Bully Blocker Pledge. Junior high and high school students discussed bullying terminology. Director of Counseling and Psychological Services Anita Horton said students also took home tip sheets for families to discuss cyber bullying, online safety and how to respond to bullying. H-E-B presented its Buddies Not Bullies program to second-grade students, and the KISD police and K-9 unit also visited some campuses. Corrales added that although the district promotes Bullying Prevention Month in October, many campuses also incorporate bullying lessons throughout the year. “[Bullying prevention] is something we should constantly practice,” she said.
