Lisa Prewitt, San Marcos City Council Place 1 incumbent, leads challenger Rene Compean in political donations so far this election season, according to the latest round of campaign finance reports due to election officials Tuesday.
Every opposed candidate in the Nov. 8 election must file a contributions and expenditures report 30 days before the election. This latest round of reports, the first mandated disclosure since this summer, covers all financials from July 1 to Sept. 29, according to the Texas Ethics Commission.
Here is how much donation money each candidate has earned and spent for the Place 1 race during that timeframe:
Prewitt: $5,920 monetary contributions, $2,963.11 expenditures
Contributions to Prewitt's campaign included $2,000 from the San Marcos Professional Firefighter's Association; $200 from fellow City Council member Scott Gregson. In all, Prewitt received 25 monetary contributions. All but two—$100 from New Braunfels resident Ann Carpenter, and $100 from Canyon Lake resident Ron Coley—were from supporters listing their address in San Marcos.Compean: $450 monetary contributions, $1,796.95 expenditures
Contributions to Compean's campaign included $200 from San Marcos resident Charles Sims; and $250 from former Hays County Judge G. Don Rains. Compean received two total monetary contributions.The next campaign finance report deadline is Oct. 31, or eight days before the election.
