Leander drivers may want to avoid the intersection of Old 2243 and North Bagdad Road this weekend.

The city will close Bagdad north of Old 2243, between the Corner Store and CVS Pharmacy, at 6 p.m. to install large stormwater box culverts under the road, City Engineer Wayne Watts said. The installation is part of the main trunk line of the roadway drainage system, he said.

Barring any delays, Watts said he expects the road to reopen Saturday morning.

Nearby residents and those heading to local businesses will still have access, but all through traffic must take a detour route on Riverway Lane.

Electronic message boards will be used to update the public on the closure, according to the city.
