Fishing and outdoors equipment retailer Bass Pro Shops announced today that it will acquire Cabela’s for approximately $5.5 billion. Cabela’s, known for its large selection of hunting, fishing and camping supplies, entered into an agreement with Bass Pro Shops to be acquired for $65.50 per share in cash, according to a news release. "Cabela’s is pleased to have found the ideal partner in Bass Pro Shops," Cabela’s CEO Tommy Millner said in a news release. "In addition to providing significant immediate value to our shareholders, this partnership provides a unique platform from which our brand will be extremely well-positioned to continue to serve outdoor enthusiasts worldwide for generations to come." Following the closing of the transaction, expected in the first half of 2017, Bass Pro Shops intends to build on qualities that customers “love most” about Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops, the news release stated. Bass Pro Shops intends to honor Cabela’s customer rewards and said there was potential, over time, to expand the program in the combined company. All Cabela’s CLUB points and Bass Pro Shops Outdoor Rewards points will be unaffected by the transactions, according to a news release. Customers can continue to use their credit cards as they did prior to the acquisition. The Cabela’s Buda location opened in June 2005. Two months later, the city reported what was at the time its largest amount of monthly sales tax revenue ever. Calls to Cabela's about how the acquisition will affect the Buda store went unanswered. There are five Texas locations of Cabela's in Texas including Allen, Buda, Fort Worth, League City, Lubbock and Waco.
