In September, Klein ISD kicked off the work of its Guiding Coalitions, volunteer groups of KISD stakeholders from across the district who lead and support a collaborative effort to improve student learning and performance, said Jenny McGown, associate superintendent for Teaching and Learning. The first full-day meeting will be held the week of Oct. 10.

“These teams will meet on a regular basis to build support structures that assist with the transformation of teaching and learning in our district,” she said.

One Guiding Coalition will focus on English language learners, and the other will support special education students, McGown said.

Each Guiding Coalition will create a vision, select initiatives to achieve that vision and recruit others to participate in these endeavors, she said. Nearly 100 educators in KISD were nominated by colleagues to participate in the program.
