Austin-based nonprofit
Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, or HAAM, is hosting events throughout the region today for its 11th annual HAAM Benefit Day fundraiser.
The goal is to raise $500,000 through sponsorships, donations and pledges from businesses that donate a percentage of today's sales, HAAM Marketing Coordinator Rikki Hardy said. The event brings live music to venues where employees and visitors might not ordinarily have the opportunity to hear from musicians who contribute to Austin's "live music capital" status, she said.
"[HAAM Benefit Day] benefits Austin musicians who are underinsured—basically working musicians in Austin who don’t have access to health care," she said. The nonprofit helps provide access to affordable health care services for Austin’s low-income and uninsured musicians.
