Barkway Pet Resort and Parkway Chevrolet in Tomball are collecting donations to send to Louisiana residents affected by the state’s recent flooding. The items will be delivered to two churches and one animal shelter in Louisiana.

Barkway General Manager Jesse Carlson said baby supplies, such as cribs, diapers and formula, are most needed. However, he said pet supplies and personal care items can also be donated for displaced residents and their pets.

“Every time we have flooding here, people come from all around to help us out, so [our owner Jean Durdin] wanted to help [Louisiana residents] out,” Carlson said. “The shelters are filling up there just because people are displaced from their home and couldn’t take [their pets].”

Parts of Louisiana experienced severe flooding in mid-August as a result of prolonged rainfall.

Personal care, nonperishable food, towels and baby items can be dropped off at Parkway Chevrolet, located at 25500 Hwy. 249, Tomball, as well as at the Parkway Family Kia and Mazda dealerships in Kingwood. Pet care items and toys, such as nonperishable treats, toys, collars, leashes, brushes and beds, can be dropped off at Barkway Pet Resort, located at 24730 Hwy. 249, Ste. A, Tomball.

“There is a great need to provide relief for so many displaced families and their pets during this time,” said Jean Durdin, owner of Parkway Auto Group and Barkway Pet Resort. “Our community has come together to do all that we can to help. We are happy to serve as a drop-off location for families to donate what they can.”

Donations are being accepted during normal business hours through Sept. 6 at both Tomball locations. Parkway Chevrolet is open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Mon.-Sat., and Barkway Pet Resort is open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Mon.-Fri., 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sat. and noon-6 p.m. Sun.
