The environmental study for a transportation
project to rebuild FM 1626 in Travis County has been completed, and the design phase was more than 90 percent complete as of Aug. 31, project manager Tony Valdez said.
The road project, which launched in August 2012, will aim to rebuild FM 1626 from Brodie Lane to Manchaca Road, widening it from a two-lane road to a four-lane highway with a continuous center left-turn lane and shoulders, curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
After the design is complete, next steps will include putting out a call for construction bids. The
public comment period ended in late January, and work on the $12 million project is slated to be completed in summer 2019, Valdez said.
The design of the road improvement project is funded by Travis County, and construction will be funded by the Texas Department of Transportation.
