St. David’s Foundation announced June 30 that it is giving more than $25 million in grants to area nonprofits whose mission is to assure healthy lives.

Foundation Communities Inc. is one of several nonprofits receiving grant money. It is receiving $1.07 million from St. David’s Foundation for support for counseling and case- management services for low-income adults and families.

At Foundation Communities’ affordable housing community Homestead Oaks Apartments on West Slaughter Lane, St. David’s Foundation held a grant announcement ceremony June 30 with Austin Mayor Steve Adler, who spoke about affordability issues in Austin.

“Affordability is a significant challenge for Austin, and St. David’s Foundation is stepping up to help,” Adler said. “For Austinites who rely on a safety net clinic, and for needy Austinites seeking mental health services, these grants go a long way toward helping to provide essential health care services.”

About $11.8 million of the grant money is for primary and preventive care for low-income families. About $8 million will go to mental health services. The remaining $5 million are for dentistry services, scholarships and exercise programs.

“We are proud to make this financial investment in our nonprofit partners who are ... providing essential health-related services,” St. David’s Foundation CEO Earl Maxwell said.
