Updated 8:15 p.m. With all votes tallied, Gary Wubbenhorst has defeated Tom Eustace for Jersey Village City Council Position 5 in the June 18 runoff election. Wubbenhorst garnered 51 percent, or 278 of the 545 total votes. Eustace received 267 votes, or 49 percent of the vote. Wubbenhorst and Eustace advanced to a runoff election when neither candidate garnered the majority of the votes in the May 7 election against Bryan D. Engledow. Wubbenhorst received 42.62 percent of the total 1,023 votes. Eustace received 31.67 percent and Engledow received the remaining 25.71 percent. Wubbenhorst is a retired chief information officer and co-founder of Better Beginnings Childcare. He moved to Jersey Village in 1992 and has been active in the Jersey Village Volunteer Fire Department for the past 18 years. "It was a close race and I had a strong opponent," Wubbenhorst said. "[Eustace] is a good man. I'm happy to have won and am lucky for my supporters." The seat has previously been held by Eustace, who won his position in 2014 after another runoff election. The Jersey Village mayor and all City Council members serve two-year terms and are limited to four terms total. The seats of Mayor Justin Ray and councilmen for Positions 2 and 3, Greg Holden and C.J. Harper, will be up for election in May 2017. All results are unofficial until canvassed.
