Transportation Updates


1. Huffmeister Road widening


Severe flooding the Cy-Fair area in April has caused county officials to delay the opening until mid-June. Originally set to open in May, the project involves widening a two-lane asphalt road to a four-lane concrete boulevard.


Timeline: Summer 2015-June 2016
Cost: $3.1 million

2. Hwy. 290 Project D


Construction is ongoing to widen outbound Hwy. 290 mainlanes and construct new frontage roads between Telge and Mueschke roads. Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation hope to open the new roads in pieces with the entire project being open to drivers by the fall if weather permits. Once crews finish compacting dirt on outbound mainlanes, the contractor will begin to install concrete pavement.

3. Grant Road widening


Harris County is in the final design phase of a project that will widen Grant Road between Old Kluge and Spring Cypress roads from a two-lane asphalt roadway to a four-lane concrete boulevard. The project will be sent out for bidding in the second quarter of 2016.


Timeline:  mid-2016-2017
Cost: $11.8 million
Funding sources: Harris County Precinct 4



4. Hwy. 290 Project G


Crews continue to work on the collector-distributor lanes running parallel to the Hwy. 290 mainlanes, which are projected to open this spring. The new lanes will provide drivers separate lanes to exit to Senate Avenue and FM 529 and enter outbound mainlanes just before FM 529.

Cost: $110.4 million
