There are no rules at paint-it-yourself ceramics studio The Glazery art and fun, which is just the way owner Marc Linsey wants it.
If you break it, you do not have to buy it, for instance, unless the breaking was intentional, Linsey said.
“We don’t have rules because I don’t like them,” he said.

In a colorful studio filled with ceramic vases, gnomes, skulls, animals and other figurines, The Glazery is geared toward children, but anyone can come and paint, Linsey said.
The Glazery reopened in November after financial difficulties forced it to close the prior year, but before that, the business had been in Missouri City for 10 years at 2883 Dulles Ave.
Linsey closed the business after not being able to make ends meet, but a former customer who owns his new space at 5211 Hwy. 6, Ste. A, wanted to help him open it back up.
“Fate allowed The Glazery to come back,” Linsey said.
Before opening The Glazery the first time, Linsey was an attorney practicing personal injury law. He decided law was not for him, and he instead wanted to work with children—a dream inspired after his daughter was born.
“Marc’s so good with the kids,” studio volunteer Daynah Hobbs said. “He really keeps them entertained.”
The Glazery lets anyone come in and paint ceramics, which are then glazed and fired at the studio in one of its three kilns. If a ceramic is not painted in one sitting, Linsey said, the customers can come back as many times as they want within 60 days to finish it without paying extra.
The studio is also known for its birthday parties for children, and Linsey even has an alternate persona he brings out for them.
“At birthdays, we don’t do a nice, quiet art party,” Linsey said. “This guy named Mr. Marc shows up and he scares me some days and I’m never sure what he going to do, but he does a routine that can involve confetti, an air hose, lots of sarcasm and really bad jokes.”

Whether it is just painting or a birthday party, Linsey said The Glazery is supposed to be about having fun.
“Everybody seems to enjoy it no matter what age,” Hobbs said.
