The Sunset Valley City Council moved forward with the
City Hall facilities project by unanimously approving a request for qualifications, or RFQ, for a construction manager during its April 19 meeting.
City Administrator Clay Collins said the construction manager search will have two steps. Construction manager applicants will submit their qualifications, then about three applicants will be selected by the city to submit more information and schedule interviews.
The city plans to advertise the RFQ from April 24 to May 1, take submissions until May 12, conduct the interviews in late May and early June and award the contract at the City Council meeting on June 21.
“The timeline is very important to keep moving because I’m thinking about the budget process,” Mayor Rose Cardona said. “
The sooner we can start understanding numbers and fees … it is going to be very helpful for the budget and finance committee and council members as we go into July and August, planning the budget for [FY 2016-17].”
The construction manager will be the technical resource for the project, Collins said.
The project, divided into phases, involves the construction of
new, permanent buildings for the city's police and public works departments and more City Hall parking. The city estimated in November that the project
may cost $6.9 million. City staff has examined several different ways to pay for the facilities, including the use of reserve funds, a possible new sales tax and borrowing money.
