Christine Hoxmeier said when her family was looking for the name for their dessert shop they found inspiration in a Burl Ives song lyric from the movie “Summer Magic”—“All I want to do when the day is through is linger here on the front porch with you.”

Front Porch Frozen Desserts in Round Rock offers frozen yogurt, gelato, Italian ice, sorbet, shakes, malts, smoothies and coffee. The owners said they aim to create an atmosphere that makes customers feel like they are sitting on their own porch at home.

The family business is 3 years old, said Christine, the assistant manager. She said her parents, Steve and Lynn, decided to open it as part of their retirement plan when her father retired from his job as a manager at Best Buy.

“My family decided to do this,” she said. “We are all part of the family, so we pitched in together.”

Front Porch Frozen Desserts offers 18 flavors of frozen yogurt each day. The owners choose from more than 50 flavors and rotate them on a weekly basis. In addition, they offer more than 90 toppings, from Round Rock Honey to chocolate rocks to crystallized ginger.

“Pretty much everything we can think of, we put out there and give it a shot,” Christine said.

She said one of their best and most unique flavors is chocolate chip cookie dough gelato, as it contains all the ingredients found actual cookie dough. Cookie dough gelato is among customers’ favorites, as is Sea Salt Caramel Pretzel Yogurt and Valencia Orange Sorbet, she said.

“I had Valencia Orange Sorbet today, and it was really good,” said customer Allison Brickley from Austin. She comes to the shop regularly with her family on their traditional frozen yogurt Fridays, Brickley said. She said her favorite item at Front Porch is Birthday Cake yogurt with M&Ms candy and sprinkles.

“It really does taste like birthday cake,” she said.

Brickley said she also comes to the shop for its ambience.

“The atmosphere is so much warmer than at other places,” she said.
