On April 4, Austin Community College's board of trustees unanimously approved measures to name its future Leander campus and support the relocation of a mass transit station to the entrance of its Highland campus.

ACC's trustees named the Leander campus—which is slated for a groundbreaking ceremony on April 21—the ACC San Gabriel campus. The $60 million campus will be located on San Gabriel Parkway near the Leander Capital Metro rail station. ACC acquired the property in 2010 and in November 2014, voters passed a $386 million bond package to fund the construction of the college.

ACC's campus advisory committee recommended the name March 3 because it reflects the geographic area the campus will serve, according to the agenda packet for the April 4 meeting.

The board also voted to issue a letter of support to the U.S. Department of Transportation for moving Capital Metro's Highland station, which features bus and passenger rail services. Capital Metro is applying for a TIGER discretionary grant from the agency to relocate and improve Highland Station.

The station is set to be moved from along Airport Boulevard, south of Highland Mall Boulevard, across the road near the entrance of the Highland campus, which opened in August 2014 in the former Highland Mall.
