On March 22, the Travis County Commissioners Court voted to appoint three more members to a new county Citizen Advisory Committee that will look at potentially providing additional capacity for the civil and family courts system.
The vote to approve the three additional names from Commissioner Brigid Shea
—Patricia Ramirez, Shahin Alvi and Robert Wright—passed 4-0-1 with Commissioner Ron Davis abstaining.
Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt said the court should also name a chairperson so the committee can move expeditiously once it begins meeting.
“We probably have a greater knowledge of the skill sets of the appointees,” she said.

Eckhardt suggested Julia Spann, executive director of local nonprofit SafePlace, be named the chair, but tabled the motion. The court is slated to vote on the chair appointee March 29.
Earlier in February, the court decided to create the committee to continue work on the issues surrounding the need for courts capacity following
voters’ rejection of bonds for a proposed new civil and family courts complex, or CFCC, in November.
On Feb. 16, the court also approved a site evaluation matrix, which county staff and design firm AECOM will use when examining potential courthouse sites. Staff and AECOM are slated to present an analysis of properties based on the matrix in March or April.
