The McKinney City Council unanimously approved a rezoning request from McKinney ISD for the land of its proposed stadium. The rezoning consolidates the land into one zoning category and allows the district to construct the stadium if they so choose. The new zoning also allows for a commercial overlay district, which allows for commercial development on the property should the district sell a small portion of land that is not currently planned to be used for the stadium. The stadium has not yet been approved. MISD will decide on Thursday whether to place a bond package on the May 7 ballot. The proposed package includes a $62.8 million stadium, $50.3 million of which is included in the proposed bond package. MISD officials said the potential stadium would bring in new infrastructure, such as sewer services and water, which would help bring in future developments along SH 121 from Hardin Boulevard to Lake Forest Drive because they would not be required to pay the hefty price of establishing those services. City officials asked that MISD consider current residents in nearby neighborhoods during the design process in respect to lighting and noise levels.
