The BP MS 150 ride is a charity event that raises money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. “This area really needed a shop, therefore, it needed an MS 150-certified shop,” general manager Jay Jackson said. About 13,000 cyclists participate in the ride, which is scheduled for April 16 and 17. Participants can start at one of three locations around Houston—including Katy—and ride 180 miles to Austin. “Typically [certification] takes two years,” Jackson said. “But we had really good customers who are good fundraisers for the MS 150.” In addition to becoming a certified shop for the BP MS 150 ride, Handlebar also expanded its store space by 1,000 square feet. “We did it to give it a much more open feel,” Jackson said. “It gave us some really nice breathing room to merchandize the store.” Jackson said Handlebar Cyclery is the farthest west bike shop in the Greater Houston area. The store also has a bicycle seat checkout option for cyclists who want to test different seats. 26440 FM 1093, Ste.
