One of the matches in the inaugural Americas Rugby Championship will be held Feb. 13 at the Dell Diamond, the Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau announced Jan. 14.
The competition marks the first time the USA Rugby Men's Eagles have played a match in the Austin area, according to the statement.
"We are honored and excited to host the first ever Americas International Championship for rugby at our beautiful Dell Diamond stadium in Round Rock,” Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Nancy Yawn said in a statement.
The competition will include six of North America’s and South America’s top-ranked international rugby union teams and will provide Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, the U.S. and Uruguay with five additional ranking tests each year, according to a statement.
The visitors bureau is promoting Round Rock as the
Sports Capital of Texas, a slogan designed to attract various sports competitions and tournaments to the area. The Dell Diamond is the home field of the Round Rock Express, the AAA minor league baseball affiliate of the Texas Rangers, and has a crowd capacity of 11,631, according to a statement.
