The Klein ISD board of trustees passed a resolution to recommend that residents use Klein, Texas, as the address for three ZIP codes—77379, 77389 and 77391—at a Jan. 11 board meeting,

While the 77391 ZIP code includes no homes, it is the location of the old post office that was located on Spring Cypress Road.

The resolution recommends that residents living within the 88-square-mile KISD boundary refer to their community as Klein, Texas. It also recommends that residents within the applicable ZIP codes use Klein as their postal city and that all buildings and facilities in those boundaries use Klein for the address, said Judy Rimato, communications director for Klein ISD.

The idea originated from the board of trustees, she said.

“I think they just really wanted to put a face on Klein ISD,” she said. “There are some districts where the name of the district is the name of the town, and Klein is in four different towns, so sometimes we get lost.”

The move is also in part to acknowledge the original settlers from 1938, Rimato said. Many of Klein ISD’s schools are named after the early settlers with surnames Klein, Wunderlich, Theiss and Lemm.

“[The school names were] a conscious effort on the part of [former] Superintendent Donald Collins to preserve the history,” she said. “When he came here, there were still so many families of descendants of the original settlers that were involved in the school district. He just felt like that would be a beautiful tribute to the early founders of this area.”

Rimato said the Klein, Texas, designation, like the school names, is an effort to preserve the history and heritage of the area for future generations.
