The Texas Department of Transportation plans to finish the Whitestone project by fall.[/caption]

Work to rebuild the intersection of East Whitestone Boulevard and Parmer Lane/Ronald Reagan Boulevard is 54 percent complete as of Jan. 12, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

However, an originally scheduled completion in spring 2016 has been postponed to fall. John Peters, TxDOT assistant area engineer, said the delay because of utility location.

“We encountered several communication and water utility lines that were not located where designated in our original design,” Peters said. “In order to keep the project moving, we made the decision to redesign around the utilities instead of waiting for them to be relocated, which added time to the project’s schedule.”

After the redesign work can move ahead as originally planned, Peters said. The project includes converting the intersection to a partial continuous-flow intersection.

The layout will add separate traffic signals on Whitestone at either side of the junction, redirecting left-turning drivers to the left side of the road before the intersection.

Whitestone will also receive new turn lanes and an extra lane in each direction between Market Street and CR 175/Sam Bass Road.
