The city of Missouri City unveiled a new program called “Silent Partner” in which residents can register their exterior-facing cameras with the city’s police department to assist in solving crimes.

The city’s new program is designed to help detectives who are investigating a crime near a residence with a registered camera, city officials said. The registered camera could provide helpful footage to the police department when solving a crime.

“The Missouri City Police Department is committed to providing excellent service to our citizens,” MCPD Assistant Chief Lance Bothell said. “To be effective, we must use every available method at our disposal to deter and solve crimes. Knowledge of cameras in and around the city would save us valuable time during investigations and could help in apprehending offenders.”

Bothell said the program is voluntary, and consent to view video footage from a resident’s camera could be withdrawn at any time.

Residents interested in signing up for the program can register their home via the city’s website. Residents may also contact Kevin Burleson with the MCPD at 281-403-8722 for further questions.
