The city of Hutto is in the process of updating its parks and recreation masterplan and  proposals include a city swimming pool, a dog park and new indoor and outdoor recreational spaces. City Parks and Recreation Director Mike Hemker said the masterplan development process began this spring and included public input and meetings with key stakeholders. "It's been a very thorough process," Hemker said. The draft plan recommends the acquisition of more than 100 acres of parkland in the coming years and allows for the replacement of aging park and playground equipment. Hemker said the playground equipment at Hutto's oldest park, Country Estates, is about 25 years old. Mayor Debbie Holland said investing in Hutto's parks and recreational opportunities will improve quality of life for current residents and could even be an incentive for businesses to move to the area. In addition, Hemker said quality parks can increase tourism and raise the property value of homes in the immediate vicinity. "This [parks and recreation] plan sets Hutto up for a lot of successes," Hemker said.
